I can guess, that you did one mistake - did not follow standard Oracle
directory names.
Usually it is all at
/opt/oracle/product/10.1.0/db_1/....
not in /opt/oracle/ora10
It all worked many times with our installations, which used standard
scripts (100% automated); you can try to download it from
http://ftp.portera.com/Linux/ and run (running REMOVE_ALL.sh script
initially).
Oracle problem is simple. IT is well tested, but in standard
configuration,. One step aside (even using non usual directory for
databsae) and you are in trouble.
(In your case - some inconsistency between /etc/oratab,
/etc/sysconfig/oracle, /etc/profile.d/oracle.sh. I usually link
/var/opt/oracle/oratab -> /etc/oratab. Add
env
command into rcoracle (/etc/init.d/oracle) script BEFORE it starts
'dbstart' , and check settings.
Or (I recommend) reinstall it all using scripts - it been tested on
approx 10 different SLES9 systems (both i386 and x86_64) and never
failed. (It have it's own orarun, which is older version, as I remember).
